Meet Two Education Ambassadors
|
Education Ambassador Q & A
How did you find out about Cultured Kids?
I learned about Cultured Kids at a school presentation
What motivated you to pursue a role as an Education Ambassador?
As a Kindergartner teacher, I saw this as an opportunity to work with older students. It turned out that many were my former students so I loved catching up with them and being with them again! I also got to meet other wonderful students that I might never have meet
Why is the work Cultured Kids is doing so important?
Cultured Kids give students a safe place to be heard. They are able to share their thoughts and ideas in the smaller group setting with confidence and not having to worry about being judged
Have you felt supported by your school's leadership team to serve in this capacity?
Absolutely! My Administration has been completely behind the work Cultured Kids is doing to help support students from all walks of life who need that place to where they can feel like they belong.
How has your experience been working with Cultured staff?
I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to work with the Cultured Kids staff. They are genuine and passionate about what they are doing. I feel very blessed to be working with them as they are not only helping students, but they are also helping me learn and grow as an educator and person.
Has this work personally benefited your life and/or teaching?
I looked forward to meeting with the book club every week! We became a “family” where I too felt like I belonged. This work has helped open my eyes to how older students might feel about being different or not fitting in at school. Every student in the book club had their own unique talent and perspective. Listening to their thoughts and ideas helped broaden my own views as I heard the students speak from angles I had never considered. This, in turn, has helped develop my own growth mindset as I meet and work with adults in my personal life and at school, and also with my students and their families.
What is one area of growth you have seen in students as a result of Cultured Kids programs?
I became connected to another student in last year’s book club whom I didn’t really know but I discovered that we both had a passion for reading. I would talk to him about books he was reading; periodically we would have small conversations about books of common interest topics that we have read. He was a typically quiet student but he really opened up during our book conversations!
What are you most looking forward to in the future about this partnership?
I am looking forward to working with older students again. I look forward to meeting new students and reconnecting with former students in this year’s book club and building/rebuilding relationships with them
