June 4th 2017
Ages 3 – 5 years: 10am – 11am
Ages 6 – 9 years: 11am – 12pm
Ages 3 – 5 yrs.
Upon entering the room children witness some strange and unusual things. A table will be set up with a book page of the Spanish flag for them to color as their eyes meander around the room at the various eccentricities.
Once everyone has arrived we will have story time: Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss. The setting in the story will mimic our environment and launch us into a conversation about dreams, surrealism, and eccentricity. Children will then be introduced to our friend, “Dolly”. Each child will have a chance to hold Dolly and share something strange and unusual from their dreams. Finally, we will look at some images of Salvador Dalí and his work with children and ask them to point out the eccentricities.
Finally, the class will create their own eccentric mustache to play, “Pin the Mustache on Dalí” and their own surrealistic collage. Children will go home with their finished masterpiece, their book pages for the workshop, and a stamped Cultured Kids Passport.
Ages 6 – 9 yrs.
While the room set up will remain the same for this workshop our story time will instead focus on A Scholastic Book introducing Salvador Dalí as one of the worlds greatest artists. We will also show a short clip from Pixar’s “Inside Out” to enhance the understanding of our subconscious. Children will then be shown images of Dalí and his work (we will only use images from our product gallery) and asked to point out areas of eccentricity.
Following our discussion we will play an eccentricity game with them to share strange an unusual choices Dalí made in his life while also building on their vocabulary. This game will further ignite their imagination and help to prepare them for creating their own surrealistic painting.
Children will go home with their finished art piece, their Cultured Kids book pages, and a stamped Cultured Kids Passport.
