Irena Stanic Rasin holds master’s degrees in English and Italian language and literature, and has translated and published texts from and into English, Italian and Croatian. She was born and raised in Croatia and has been living in the U.S. for longer than she has lived anywhere else.
Aside from serving on our board she is also Regional Director for Cultured Kids in Massachusetts, Co-founder and Director of the Croatian School of Boston, and a member of the Croatian-American tamburitza band and chorus Pajdashi, which performs traditional Croatian folk songs, and which in 2009 released its first CD U kolo.
For most of the year, Irena lives in Massachusetts with her amazing husband, their three beautiful children (one of whom is in college for most of the year), and a dog named Toto. She spends summers on the stunning Adriatic Coast, and sometimes a year, or half-year in Zagreb, Croatia.
Justin has a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), Marketing from the University of Central Missouri. He currently acts as a Principal Solutions Consultant for Oracle Corporation in the Greater Boston Area. His professional expertise, creativity, passion for increased cultural education, and heart for service are all factors that contribute to the growth and development of Cultured Kids. His strong leadership skills, energy, and problem solving tactics help to strengthen the foundation of our organization. He and his wife Rachel are active members in their church and live in the Boston area.
Jane is a partner radiologist at Radiology Associates of Norwood Inc, serving Norwood Hospital for more than 13 years. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Dr. Auger serves on counter boards and is active in her community. She is a member of Masterworks Chorale, and has served on their board. She is a member of the Open Spaces Committee of the Town of Arlington, Massachusetts, dedicated to preserving the green spaces around her home. She serves as the Medical Director of the Radiologic Technology Program at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, MA, an Associated Degree program she developed and administered until beginning medical school. Together, with her husband, Nate Goldshlag, she enjoys music and culture, and is proud to be on the board of Cultured Kids.
After retiring as an electronics engineer in 2005, Nate joined the Board of Directors of Veterans For Peace (VFP) in the summer of 2009 and was on the Board until January 2013. He served as national Treasurer of VFP from 2010 – 2013. He currently serves on two national committees of VFP. He also volunteers with X-Cel Education in Roxbury, MA tutoring young adults in math in preparation for the high school equivalency exams and is on the X-Cel Fundraising Committee. Nate and his wife Jane are avid travelers and explorers. They have an enormous amount of experience in a variety of cultures and use this knowledge to support Cultured Kids.
Rachel has a B.A. in Psychology from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and is currently getting her doctorate in the Clinical Science Doctoral Program at Harvard University. For the last four years her research has focused on understanding the influence of social and cultural factors (both at the individual and community level) on three areas of study in child and adolescent mental health: the development and maintenance of psychological problems, the effectiveness of interventions in community- based mental health care settings, and the implementation of evidence-based treatment in community settings. She is also passionate about mentoring students and ensuring that they are afforded rich research opportunities. This includes her annual work in helping to coordinate one of Harvard’s summer programs for visiting students to provide rich and diverse research opportunities to culturally underrepresented students who do not have access to independent research at their home institutions. Her professional experience and passion for research will contribute to our organization’s ability to grow more effective over time.
Kena has a B.A. in Psychology from Cedarville University and a M.A. in Child Development form Tufts University. She currently works as a Developmental Specialist and Spanish Intake Coordinator for Dimock Early Intervention. Aside from her professional experience, Kena’s personal life experiences provide insight into challenges that Third Culture Kids encounter on a daily basis. Kena serves on the board of Cultured Kids and is also available to our organization as a Child Development Consultant.
Jonah received an undergraduate degree in Sport Management from Springfield College. While getting his degree at Springfield College he also served as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. After completing his undergraduate degree he spent one year assisting Kathy Delaney Smith at Harvard University and two years assisting for Carla Berube at Tufts University. He left coaching to pursue an MBA at BC and is now working as a Senior Consultant for Deloitte in Roslyn, VA.
He and his wife Michelle have co-founded Cultured Kids and are excited to launch in the DC metro area as well.
Michelle is a graduate from University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a degree in Studio Art and Spanish. She has 20 years of experience teaching children outside of traditional school methods. Her entrepreneurial spirit has lead her to start her own art education programs, event planning and catering business, and now Cultured Kids. She believes that each of these past business ventures have contributed to the depth and creativity that Cultured Kids offers. She currently lives in Vienna, VA with her husband Jonah, their two incredible kids (Maris – 8yrs. and Hagen – 5yrs.), and their dog Cassius (9yrs).
