My husband and I founded Cultured Kids in 2015 and have had the pleasure of serving many communities in the Greater Boston Area since then. Last summer our family moved to our Nation's Capital and hired a Regional Director for Cultured Kids to continue our pursuits there while I continued to work remotely and toward launching in the Metro DC area.
While I was exploring a Chinese New Year event in Fair Oaks, VA with my kiddos yesterday, Irena was providing a Cultured Kids Chinese New Year Event in Belmont. What a success!!!
First and foremost, I want to thank The Loved Child for donating the space and providing support and encouragement along the way. Jennifer Gillette, owner of The Loved Child, is passionate about providing programs that support families through every stage life offers. We feel blessed to have found someone who's passion for growth is equal to that of our own.
Second, I would like to thank Shine's Fresh Asian and Number One Taste, two Belmont restaurants that contributed a delicious spread of food. When I first thought of creating a Chinese New Year event I decided I would call some local restaurants to see if anyone would contribute donations and that would make the decision for me. When I called Mr. Shiwu (Shine) Huang at Shine's Fresh he said, "Yes!" with exuberance and without hesitation. Thank you Mr. Shiwu Huang; without you this would not have become a reality!
In addition to this spread of food was the donation from Number One Taste. Working with Va Sy (Jack) was equally pleasant. He was eager to help, even through some last minute details (like running back to his restaurant to get us some more serving utensils). I am proud to be a part of such a supportive community.
I also want to draw attention to The Book Rack in Arlington, MA. With their book contribution we were able to send a few families home with brand new children's books that will further their exploration of Chinese culture, the Chinese New Year, and the joy of reading. A special thanks you to Brenda at The Book Rack for getting the request into the right hands, and Mike Buglio for making it happen.
Finally, a special thank you to our Regional Director for putting on an incredible event and for all the children, parents, and community members that joined us. The amount of energy, perseverance, and vision required to venture out and start a new organization like this is grand. There are days when I question my ability to push through the adversity. In the end, moments like this remind me the value our programs have in a broken world that is struggling to unify. Cultured Kids looks forward to the many multicultural programs that will teach our children to explore, understand, and appreciate all cultures and ethnicities.
Please take a moment to watch our introductory video and consider supporting our cause. We are running a fundraising campaign this February to raise $10,000 dollars and to also secure 10 monthly donors. Your support will mean more programs for communities, schools, and children in Boston, Washington DC, and Fort Portal, Uganda.
